About the Intensive English Institute

Timbuktu American University is opening its Intensive English Institute in Bamako, preparing students for university study in English and offering Professional English for working adults. Both strands are taught in English.

The intensive programme has six levels, five hours daily, Monday to Friday, in eight-week cycles. The first cycle is planned for 2 November 2026.

The Coordinator carries the Institute’s daily academic work, supports the teaching team, and completes and runs the working instruments within TAU’s academic framework — with academic support at first, and in time taking academic leadership.

Responsibilities

• Run placement, course planning and assessment, and take part in progression decisions under the Institute’s procedures.

• Prepare course outlines and ensure resources and instruments are ready before use.

• Mentor teachers through planning, observation and constructive feedback.

• Maintain consistent assessment standards and accurate academic records.

• Teach assigned classes, including two adjacent levels where required.

Qualifications

• A degree and a relevant English-language teaching qualification, or equivalent preparation through a degree in the field.

• Substantial relevant teaching experience, including adult or academic English, and demonstrated teacher mentoring or academic coordination.

• Evidence of curriculum planning, assessment development or moderation, and sound placement and progression decisions.

• English at CEFR C1 or above, demonstrated in speaking, writing and teaching.

• Ability to teach and support teachers working with two adjacent levels.

Desirable

An MA in TESOL or applied linguistics, an advanced ELT qualification, or equivalent professional expertise; CEFR level design; university-preparation experience.

French is helpful, not required. Local and regional qualifications are welcome.

Terms and application

Based in Bamako. Salaried, full time, one year renewable.

The post teaches as well as coordinates; teaching hours are set cycle by cycle according to the sections that open.
