1. POSITION PURPOSE

The Civil Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, supervision and delivery of civil engineering projects and infrastructure maintenance activities across the Syama Mine operation. The role ensures all civil works are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with applicable engineering standards and SOMISY requirements.

·         Civil projects completed safely, on time and within budget.

·         Quality workmanship and compliance with approved specifications.

·         Effective contractor management and supervision.

Infrastructure Reliability

·         Roads, drains, buildings, concrete structures and site infrastructure maintained to operational standards.

·         Timely identification and rectification of defects.

Compliance & Governance

·         Compliance with mining company procedures, engineering standards and statutory requirements.

·         Accurate project documentation and reporting.

Continuous Improvement

·         Identification of cost-saving and efficiency improvement opportunities.

·         Adoption of practical engineering solutions suitable for remote mining operations.

3. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

A. Project Planning and Design

·         Prepare scopes of work, drawings, specifications and cost estimates.

·         Assist with project planning, scheduling and budgeting.

·         Review engineering designs and contractor submissions.

B. Project Execution

·         Supervise civil construction activities and contractors.

·         Monitor project progress and quality of work.

·         Ensure works are completed according to approved designs and specifications.

C. Infrastructure Maintenance

·         Inspect site infrastructure including roads, drainage systems, buildings, concrete slabs and water management structures.

·         Recommend and coordinate repair and maintenance activities.

·         Monitor condition of civil assets.

D. Contractor Management

·         Coordinate contractor mobilization and site access requirements.

·         Monitor contractor performance and compliance.

·         Review progress claims and completed work.

E. Reporting and Documentation

·         Prepare project progress reports.

·         Maintain project records, drawings and technical documentation.

·         Participate in project close-out and handover activities.

F. Health, Safety and Environment

·         Demonstrate visible safety leadership.

·         Ensure all work is completed in accordance with site safety requirements.

·         Participate in risk assessments, inspections and incident investigations.

·         Promote environmental compliance and sustainable work practices.

4. PEOPLE LEADERSHIP

·         Provide technical guidance to project supervisors, contractors and trades personnel.

·         Support development of national employees through coaching and mentoring.

·         Promote teamwork and professional conduct.

5. QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

·         Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

·         Registered or eligible for registration with a recognised engineering body.

Desirable

·         Project Management qualification.

·         Experience in mining or heavy industrial environments.

6. EXPERIENCE

Essential

·         Minimum 5 years' experience in civil engineering or construction.

·         Experience managing contractors and site-based projects.

·         Experience preparing technical scopes and project documentation.

Desirable

·         Experience in mining operations.

·         Experience with earthworks, concrete works, roads and drainage systems.
